Cortisol used to establish the diagnosis of adrenocortical insufficiency, Addison disease, adrenocortical hypersecretion, Cushing syndrome. Malfunction of the organs in the hypothalamic-pituitary-adrenal cortex axis will result in alteration of the cortisol levels. Fasting is not required for this blood test. Expect results in 1-2 business days.
